Based on: CARING FOR PEOPLE GOD'S WAY: an accredited program in Biblical Counseling.  This is a 30 hour External Certificate Video Based Program.

It is certified by the American Association of Christian Counselors.  The tapes and workbook guide will be available in the Hood Seminary Library.  Each module is self-guided with open book test provided.  The videos may be viewed at home, office or using the Hood Library VCR.  The practicum includes a short taped speech or sermon, short article for newspaper or journal publication, (i.e., "clergy corner") and 5 page summary of course and real life experience(s).

Our local adjunct professor is Rev. Dr. Fleming Otey.  He has a B.S. in Business Administration, a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry ( TSU, Vanderbilt and San Francisco SFTS).  He served 20 years as a reserve Air Force supply officer becoming a Lieutenant Colonel.  While reservist he also was a nationally recognized community minority business developer and consultant.  He served 20 years as a Navy Chaplain and the recent 10 years as a Salisbury Veterans Hospital Chaplain.

Dr. Timothy Clinton, President of the AACC, says the following about the course.)
God cares deeply for all people, calls us...and desires to work through us to touch others, bringing them that message of hope.  In this course, you'll be introduced to tough issues that commonly cause pain for today's generation, the modern-day search for answers, and the biblical basis of a competent counseling ministry.
This course is co-sponsored for clergy, students, professionals and life long learners by a consortium of Rowan County institutions and ministerial associations.  Dr. Otey will be available 11:45 a.m. or 4:45 p.m. by appointment.  For more details, Chaplain Otey may be contacted at
